Undressing Mr James

January 5, 2011
OK.  You’ve waited long enough, so here is where I reveal the cheats that got Robert to the Promenade (not quite on time!)

As I mentioned in the previous blog entry, I ran out of sewing time with Robert’s costume nowhere near finished, so we had to cheat…BIG TIME!!

Robert’s mum, Vi, had been helping with hemming, and Robert himself had taken up and hemmed his shirt and cravat, but soon realised that he’d cut off a little too much, leaving the shirt shorter than it should have been.  Oops!

With the minutes ticking by, I was nowhere near having his trousers ready, so Robert made a suggestion, which we had no choice but to go along with.
Here he is in his (unfinished) costume…he looks fairly presentable don’t you think?

Unbutton the coat…it still looks fine…

So far so good…even when he takes off his coat…

…but when he unbuttons the waistcoat…what’s this??

The trousers look a bit odd, don’t you think!  Turn around Mr James…OMG!!  What have we here???

Yes, its all pinned, patched, and tacked onto a pair of cut-down cargo pants and the shirt!

…which did result in the shirt being pulled down and the trousers being pulled up…but we got to the Promenade, and no-one guessed the truth (unless we told them…lol!)

The next shirt will be made with a much smaller under-arm gusset, as I think that these are a little too large.

So there you have it…Robert’s first Regency Promenade.  This year he will attend in a completed outfit…and look bang up to the nines, as they say!  😉

You both looked stunning me dear, and nobody can see he’s not sewn up in the photos. What a grand job you did as always.
I’ve got to say it though, looks a bit like Tarzan’s ‘butt flap’ in that last photo 😉
